What Can I Expect On My First Visit?
We acknowledge that coming for treatment of a pelvic dysfunction could be uncomfortable. We know it takes courage to pursue treatment for these issues.
Your therapist will:
- Educate you on the musculature and function of the pelvis before any evaluation takes place
- Take a thorough medical history
- Assess pain levels & location
- Ask you questions about your bowel, bladder and sexual function as the pelvic musculature involves all three functions.
- Evaluate posture, core strength, pelvis and hip muscles.
- Assess your pelvic floor muscles. This can be performed vaginally or rectally. This is not a pelvic exam (no stirrups or speculum is utilized); it is an assessment of the pelvic musculature. If you are not comfortable with this, your therapist will present evaluation options to you.
- Educate you on the musculature and function of the pelvis before any evaluation takes place
- Provide treatment
- Prescribe exercises or activities to be performed at home
- Give you a folder, in which to record your future appointments and keep your home program.
